Pentafluoropropionic anhydride (PFPA) is a derivatising agent of amines, alcohols, etc. for Electron-Capture GC detection. It has been used as a catalyst in the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds, including peptides, carbohydrates, and lipids. It acts as a Lewis acid, donating electrons to the substrate molecule, which helps to facilitate the reaction. Pentafluoropropionic anhydride also acts as a proton donor, which helps to activate the substrate molecule.
