QUICK LINKS

Penicillin G potassium salt, cell culture grade inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. This binding prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains, leading to the disruption of the bacterial cell wall and ultimately causing cell lysis. As a result, Penicillin G potassium salt, cell culture grade exhibits bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria, including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and Clostridium species. By interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis, Penicillin G potassium salt, cell culture grade disrupts the structural integrity of the bacteria, leading to their eventual death. This mechanism of action may be a useful for studying bacterial cell wall synthesis and for investigating the susceptibility of different bacterial strains to penicillin-based antibiotics.
