Penicillin Antibody (Pen 9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Penicillin protein through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Penicillin antibody (Pen 9) is available as a non-conjugated format. Penicillin, a member of the β-lactam antibiotics group, features a unique β-lactam ring structure crucial for antibacterial activity. This structure enables Penicillin to inhibit peptidoglycan layer synthesis in bacterial cell walls, making anti-Penicillin antibody (Pen 9) a potent bactericidal agent primarily against Gram-positive bacteria. Penicillin′s structure binds to Penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), essential for bacterial cell wall integrity. Bacterial resistance mechanisms can compromise Penicillin′s efficacy through β-lactamase production that hydrolyzes the β-lactam ring and altered PBPs with reduced binding affinity. Understanding these interactions helps develop strategies to combat antibiotic resistance and ensure effective bacterial infection treatments. Penicillins should not be administered to patients with histories of hives or anaphylactic responses.
