Paramethasone, also referred to as dillar, is a member of the organic compound class known as 21-hydroxysteroids. Paramethasone has been discovered in human hepatic tissue and detected in various biofluids, like urine and blood. This fluorinated steroid, a glucocorticoid, is known to inhibit leukocyte infiltration at inflammation sites, interfere with inflammation mediators, and suppress humoral immune responses. The anti-inflammatory actions of glucocorticoids like paramethasone are believed to involve phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, lipocortins, controlling the biosynthesis of inflammation mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The compound can reduce inflammatory reaction by limiting capillary dilation and vascular structures′ permeability. The compounds also restrict the accumulation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and macrophages and decrease the release of vasoactive kinins. There is a suggestion from recent research that corticosteroids may inhibit the release of arachidonic acid from phospholipids, thus reducing prostaglandins formation.
