OSI027 potently inhibits mTOR kinase. OSI027 potentially has antineoplastic activity. OSI-027 activity may result in tumor cell apoptosis and a decrease in tumor cell proliferation via binding to and inhibiting both the raptor-mTOR and the rictor-mTOR complexes of mTOR. MTOR is a serine/threonine kinase that is upregulated in some tumors. OSI027 acts as a potent suppressor of primitive leukemic precursors and is much more effective than rapamycin in eliciting antileukemic effects in vitro.
