OMP Antibody (B-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects the olfactory marker protein (OMP) of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-OMP antibody (B-6) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The olfactory marker protein plays a crucial role in the olfactory system, particularly in the cytoplasm of olfactory chemosensory neurons located in the nasal neuroepithelium, where OMP serves as a marker of mature vertebrate olfactory receptor neurons. OMP is synthesized in the neuronal cell bodies and subsequently transported into axons and terminals in the olfactory bulb, where OMP is translated. Notably, OMP has been shown to interact with brain-expressed X-linked genes Bex1 and Bex2, which may influence neuronal signaling pathways. Additionally, OMP is believed to have a modulatory role in the odor detection and signal transduction cascade, enhancing the sensitivity of olfactory responses. In fetal olfactory epithelial cells, OMP acts as a potent enhancer of mitosis, promoting increased uptake of tritiated thymidine in the liver. The deletion of OMP has been linked to a diminished ability to respond to odor stimuli and an increase in behavioral threshold sensitivity, underscoring OMP′s importance in olfactory function and development.
