Olopatadine hydrochloride is a potent and selective antagonist of histamine H1 receptors. It functions by inhibiting the release of histamine from mast cells, thereby preventing the allergic response. At the molecular level, it exerts its action by binding to the H1 receptor and blocking the binding of histamine, thus preventing the activation of the receptor and subsequent allergic response.
