OCTN1/2 Antibody (H-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects OCTN1/2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). OCTN1/2 (H-9) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. OCTN1/2 protein plays a crucial role in carnitine transport, a vital compound for the β-oxidation of long-chain fatty acids, which is essential for energy production in cells. This transport is particularly important in tissues with high energy demands, such as the heart and skeletal muscle, where efficient fatty acid metabolism is critical for maintaining cellular function and overall metabolic health. Additionally, OCTN proteins are localized to the plasma membrane of epithelial cells, facilitating carnitine reabsorption in the kidney and elimination of cationic compounds, including xenobiotics. Mutations in the gene encoding OCTN2 can lead to systemic carnitine deficiency, an autosomal recessive disorder that manifests with severe symptoms such as cardiomyopathy and skeletal myopathy, highlighting the importance of OCTN2 in human health.
