NS-398 is a compound utilized in biochemical research for its inhibitory action on the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). This specificity makes NS-398 a useful tool for scientists studying the enzyme′s role in the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are lipid compounds involved in various cellular processes. By selectively inhibiting COX-2, NS-398 allows for a deeper understanding of the distinct physiological and pathophysiological roles of COX-2-derived prostaglandins, separate from those produced by COX-1. Additionally, NS-398 aids in the exploration of inflammation mechanisms, given the involvement of COX-2 in the inflammatory response. This research contributes to a broader comprehension of enzyme functions in cellular signaling and regulation.

How do I make a stock solution of this product?

Asked by: hawkeye11
Thank you for your question. NS-398 is supplied as a solid. A stock solution may be made by dissolving the NS-398 in an organic solvent purged with an inert gas. NS-398 is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, DMSO, and dimethyl formamide. The solubility of NS-398 in these solvents is approximately 0.5, 25, and 30 mg/ml, respectively. NS-398 is sparingly soluble in aqueous buffers. For maximum solubility in aqueous buffers, NS-398 should first be dissolved in DMSO and then diluted with aqueous buffers of choice. NS-398 has solubility of approximately 400 ug/ml in a 1:3 solution of DMSO:PBS (pH 7.2) using this method. We do not recommend storing the aqueous solution for more than one day.
