QUICK LINKS

Nocodazole is widely used in cell biology research for its ability to disrupt microtubule dynamics. This disruption makes it useful for studying cell division, particularly the mechanisms of mitosis and the structure and function of the mitotic spindle. Research involving Nocodazole often examines the arrest of cells in the mitotic phase, providing insights into cell cycle regulation and checkpoint controls. Additionally, it is employed to study intracellular transport processes and the role of microtubules in organelle positioning and stability within cells. Nocodazole also facilitates investigations into the cellular response to microtubule damage, which is for understanding the strategies cells employ to maintain homeostasis and integrity under stress conditions.

How should the compound be stored after it has been solubilized?

Asked by: chemsd02
Thank you for your question. sc-3518 (Nocodazole, CAS 31430-18-9) should be stored at -20°C and is stable for up to 3 months. However, wherever possible, the solutions should be used freshly. Nocodazole is almost insoluble in aqueous solutions. Prior to performing biological experiments, further dilutions of the stock solution into aqueous or isotonic saline is should be made. However, due to the low solubility in water, Nocodazole has only a solubility of ~0.25 mg/mL in a 1:3 solution of DMSO:PBS (pH 7.2). Aqueous solutions should be stored on ice and used within 24 hours of preparation.
