NNGH is a cell-permeable and potent inhibitor of MMP-3. NNGH binds to the active site of enzymes and inhibits their activity. It is thought to bind to the enzyme′s active site by forming a covalent bond with the enzyme′s active site residues. NNGH also binds to proteins and other ligands, forming a non-covalent bond. The binding of NNGH to proteins and other ligands is thought to be mediated by hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces.
