Nitrilotriacetic acid disodium salt, referred to as NTA, is used as a chelator of Ca2+, Cu2+, and Fe3+ ions that are found in hard water samples. Nitrilotriacetic acid disodium salt is also available as the free acid form, Nitrilotriacetic acid (sc-215578). Nitrilotriacetic acid disodium salt is similar to EDTA (sc-203932), but is more easily biodegradable.
