Nicotinic acid mononucleotide can be used to study the phosphate-responsive signaling pathway in yeast and NAD(+) in yeast. It is also a substrate for NMN/NaMN adenylyltransferase (NMNAT). Nicotinic acid mononucleotide is synthesized through the Preiss-Handler pathway by the action of phosphoribosyltransferase enzyme on nicotinic acid 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate.
