QUICK LINKS

NDSB-195 is a member of the class of nondetergent sulfobetaines. Unlike CHAPS and other zwittergents, NDSBs are nondenaturing even at 1 M concentrations. NDSBs have been used to improve the efficiency of solubilization of membrane proteins, to chromatographically purify halophilic proteins in low ionic strength buffers, to isolate nuclear proteins, and to crystallize proteins. They are zwitterionic over a wide pH range and do not absorb significantly in the near UV range. Reported to facilitate the renaturation of chemically and thermally denatured proteins and prevent protein aggregation. NDSB-195 can be easily removed by dialysis. It enhances the solubility of other substances and reduces the surface tension of solutions. Furthermore, NDSB-195 is highly adept at binding to molecules.
