N744 tosylate is an inhibitor of arachidonic acid-induced aggregation of tau proteins. Studies suggest that as a result of tau protein inhibition, tau filament nucleation is reduced. It is believed that tau proteins can be used as robust markers for disease progression. Studies show that at physiological pH, N744 tosylate is a positively charged molecule, which closely resembles the planar aromatic dyes of the Congo Red (sc-359843) family of compounds. Furthermore, N744 tosylate suppresses microsphere-mediated tau fibrillization via inhibiting the formation of filaments at the surface of microspheres. These studies also show that N744 tosylate can affect the number and length of tau filaments.
