N1,N12-Diacetylspermine-d6 dihydrochloride (DASPM) is a diacetylated derivative of Spermine (sc-212953) and used in breast and colorectal cancer research as a tumor marker. It is also used in cell culture and as a model for the study of cell-cell and protein-protein interactions. It may act to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, to modulate the expression of certain genes, and to modulate the activity of certain enzymes. Moreover, it has been revealed to modulate the activity of certain hormones, such as insulin and glucagon, as well as to modulate the activity of certain neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine.
