N-SMase Spiroepoxide Inhibitor is a potent and selective irreversible inhibitor of neutral sphingomyelinase (N-SMase). It binds to the active site of N-SMase, indicating that it can be used to study the biological role and mechanism of N-SMase. Additionally, use of N-SMase Spiroepoxide Inhibitor in HUVEC cells has displayed substantial suppression of IL-1β-induced TF protein formation confirming the involvement of nSMase in contributing to cellular increases of ceramide. The compound has also been used to inhibit exosome release during the isolation process of exosomes derived from HCV-infected hepatocytes.
