N,N,N′-Trimethyl-1,3-propanediamine can be used in preparation of unlabeled N,N,N′-trimethyl-[2-hydroxy-3-methyl-5-iodobenzyl]-1,3-propanediamine. It is a reactant that as a ligand, racemizes aromatic alcohols completely in the prescence of a ruthenium-based racemization catalyst. It also has an important role in the catalytic hydroamination of alkenes, which are compounds that contain at least one double-bonded carbon atom.
