N-Methyl Zonisamide (NMZ) is a member of the sulfonamide class. It is postulated to exert its effects through the modulation of voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels, while simultaneously enhancing GABAergic neurotransmission. The inhibitory properties of N-Methyl Zonisamide are exemplified by its ability to impede the firing of epileptic neurons. This inhibition is achieved through the reduction of calcium ion influx into the cells, ultimately curbing their hyperactivity. Additionally, N-Methyl Zonisamide augments the inhibitory actions of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) on neurons, resulting in a decline in cellular excitability.
