N-Hydroxysulphosuccinimidyl-4-azidobenzoate also know as 1-(4-azidobenzoyl)oxy-2,5-dioxopyrrolidine-3-sulfonic acid (PASA), use extends to the synthesis of peptides, as a ligand in coordination chemistry, and as a protein solubilizing agent. Also, it has been utilized as a fluorescent probe to identify the existence of specific biological molecules and as a reagent in polymer synthesis. The action mechanism of N-Hydroxysulphosuccinimidyl-4-azidobenzoate isn′t fully comprehended yet, but it′s thought to involve the creation of an intermediate product, 4-azidobenzoyloxy-2-pyrrolidinone, which then further reacts with 2,5-dioxo-1-pyrrolidinesulfonic acid to form N-Hydroxysulphosuccinimidyl-4-azidobenzoate. This intermediate product is thought to be involved in the inhibition of certain enzymes as well as in the synthesis of various compounds.
