N-Desethyl Amodiaquine Dihydrochloride functions as a potent inhibitor of heme polymerase, an enzyme involved in the detoxification of heme in malaria parasites. At the molecular level, N-Desethyl Amodiaquine Dihydrochloride binds to the heme polymerase enzyme, preventing it from carrying out its normal function. This disruption in the detoxification process results in the buildup of toxic heme, which is detrimental to the survival of the malaria parasites. By targeting this specific enzyme, N-Desethyl Amodiaquine Dihydrochloride interferes with the parasites′ ability to neutralize heme.
