N-Boc-diethanolamine is a building block for cationic lipid and nucleoside synthesis. It is also useful as a monomer for synthesis of poly(urethanes). The exact mechanism of action of N-Boc-diethanolamine is not known, but it is believed to be converted to an active form by the action of a hydrolase enzyme.
