MTEP hydrochloride is a non-competitive, potent and highly selective mGluR-5 antagonist. Group I metabotropic glutamate receptors are coupled to Gq/11 and are activators of phospholipase C. MTEP hydrochloride, an analog of the neurotransmitter glutamate, has been widely employed in in vitro experiments to investigate its cellular impact. Its effects on cell proliferation, apoptosis, gene expression, and signal transduction pathways have been examined using MTEP hydrochloride activation.
