MSP-1 Antibody (PVM-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects MSP-1 protein of Plasmodium vivax origin by western blotting (WB). Merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP-1) plays a crucial role in the malaria parasite′s life cycle, particularly during the blood stage when MSP-1 facilitates red blood cell invasion. MSP-1 is located on the merozoite surface, the invasive form of the parasite, and is essential for attaching to and penetrating host erythrocytes. MSP-1′s location serves as the first point of contact between the parasite and host cell, making MSP-1 a key target for immune responses and vaccine development. MSP-1 undergoes complex post-translational modifications, including glycosylation, which aids in stability, function, and influences immune evasion strategies. Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors secure MSP-1 to the parasite′s plasma membrane, enhancing invasion process roles. Given these critical functions and strategic location, MSP-1 serves as both a vital component of the Plasmodium vivax life cycle and a promising malaria vaccine candidate, eliciting strong immune responses that could potentially combat malaria infections.
