MSP-1 Antibody (PEM-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP-1) of Plasmodium falciparum by western blotting (WB). MSP-1 is a critical surface component of the blood-stage forms of the malaria-causing parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, and plays a vital role in the parasite′s invasion of red blood cells. Anti-MSP-1 antibody (PEM-2) recognizes a protein that undergoes selective proteolytic processing and reassembly, which is essential for the merozoite′s ability to attach to and penetrate erythrocytes. MSP-1 is anchored to the parasite plasma membrane via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor, and features post-translational modifications such as O-linked and N-linked glycosylation, which are crucial for stability and function. These modifications aid in structural integrity and influence interactions with host immune cells, making MSP-1 a promising candidate for vaccine development. MSP-1 (PEM-2) antibody serves as a valuable tool for studying malaria pathogenesis and developing therapeutic interventions.
