MRS 2578, a symmetric aryl diisothiocyanate derivative, is shown to be an inhibitor of P2Y6 receptors. P2Y receptors are G-coupled receptors that are ATP activated and initiate an intracellular chain of reactions. P2Y receptor activation has been reported to induce phospholipase C activity. Further studies reveal that P2Y6 receptors can cause microglial phagocytosis as well as activation of P38 MAPK and expression of COX-2 in cells exposed to UVB radiation. MRS 2578 is an inhibitor of P2Y66.
