Mono(2-ethylhexyl) Terephthalate is a monomer in the production of polymers, including polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is a plasticizer for poly(vinyl chlorides) and acts as a metabolite of di(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHT), which has been determined to be non-genotoxic. To analyze Mono(2-ethylhexyl) Terephthalate, use 4,4-dimethyl-4-silapentane-1,3-dione as an internal standard with gas chromatography. This analytical method is shown to have a high detection limit of 0.5 ng/mL for Mono(2-ethylhexyl) Terephthalate metabolites in human urine.
