MOBP Antibody (4C2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects MOBP protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-MOBP antibody (4C2) is available as the non-conjugated format. The gene encoding MOBP, or myelin-associated oligodendrocytic basic protein, is located on chromosome 3p22.2 and is a crucial component of the central nervous system′s myelin sheath. MOBP plays a significant role in the structural integrity of myelin, which is essential for proper conduction of electrical impulses along nerve fibers. MOBP exists in several splice variants, including MOBP-71, MOBP-81A, MOBP-99, and MOBP-169, which contain exon 8b and are specifically directed to sites of myelin sheath assembly, contributing to myelin formation. In contrast, variants such as MOBP-69, MOBP-81B, and MOBP-170, which lack exon 8b, are retained in the oligodendrocyte soma and may have regulatory functions. MOBP′s importance is underscored by involvement in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis, highlighting potential as a target for therapeutic intervention.
