QUICK LINKS

MMP-2 Inhibitor I, cis-9-Octadecenoyl-N-hydroxylamide, is a small molecule non-reversible inhibitor of MMP-2 (matrix metalloproteinases gelatinase A), a protein implicated in the pathological breakdown of extracellular matrix proteins. The migration of vascular smooth muscle cells stimulated by interleukin-Ibeta requires active MMP-2, and MMP-2 Inhibitor I was shown to attenuate this migration. Migration of various normal and oncogenic cells similarly depend upon MMP-2 activity, and MMP-2 Inhibitor I has been indicated for intervention upon these migratory processes.
