QUICK LINKS

Mexiletine hydrochloride is a sodium channel blocker that inhibits the inward movement of sodium ions through the cell membrane. It functions by binding to the local anesthetic receptor site on the sodium channel, thereby blocking the influx of sodium ions during depolarization. This action results in a reduction of the rate of rise of the action potential and a decrease in the excitability of the cell. By modulating sodium channel activity, Mexiletine hydrochloride can alter the conduction of electrical impulses in excitable tissues, such as cardiac and neuronal cells. Mexiletine Hydrochloride′s mechanism of action involves stabilizing the neuronal membrane and reducing the repetitive firing of action potentials. Mexiletine hydrochloride may have antiarrhythmic effects by prolonging the refractory period of cardiac tissue. Mexiletine hydrochloride′s function involves modulating sodium channel activity to influence the conduction of electrical impulses in excitable tissues.
