QUICK LINKS

Methyllycaconitine Perchlorate, Delphinium sp. is a α-Bungarotoxin neuronal nicotinic receptor (nAChR) antagonist. It has high affinity (nM range) for a subtype of the neuronal acetylcholine receptor (nAchR) in the brain which probably incorporates the α7-subunit. It exhibits micromolar affinity for muscle acetylcholine receptor and for α-bungarotoxin-insensitive neuronal nAChR. Reconstitution experiments in Xenopus oocytes have shown the effects of methyllycaconitine on nAChR to be highly specific for the α7-subtype (IC50 = 0.1 nM), but not for the α3β4-subtype (IC50 = 1 μM). This can be used to distinguish between neuronal and muscular nicotinic receptors.
