Methomyl, is a carbamate insecticide and molluscicide that exerts its effects by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Methomyl belongs to the carbamate group of pesticides, which possess broad-spectrum activity. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Chemically, methomyl falls into the category of carboximidic acids and derivatives, characterized by the presence of a carboximidic group with the general formula R-C(=NR1)OR2. It exists as a solid compound with slight solubility in water and displays weakly acidic properties based on its pKa value. Methomyl is primarily located in the cytoplasm within cells. Methomyl is a white crystalline solid that emits a faint sulfurous odor.
