Metaphit methanesulfonate salt is an inhibitor of NMDA and Sigma Receptor. NMDA receptors are a subtype of glutamate receptors and play a critical role in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. Antagonists of these receptors have various effects ranging from neuroprotection to anesthetic and psychotomimetic properties. Metaphit methanesulfonate salt is also a highly potent and selective inhibitor of the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2), which is responsible for packaging neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine into vesicles for release into the synapse. This inhibition leads to a depletion of neurotransmitter stores. The compound can be used to study the function of specific neurotransmitter systems and their role in behavior, cognition, and disease.
