MetAP-2 Antibody (A-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 antibody that detects MetAP-2 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MetAP-2, a member of the M24 family of proteins, plays a crucial role in protein maturation by removing N-terminal methionine residues from nascent peptides, a process essential for proper functioning of many proteins. This enzymatic activity is particularly important in eukaryotic cells, where MetAP-2 is involved in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation. The conservation of MetAP-2 between humans and the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae highlights its fundamental biological significance. Furthermore, regulation of MetAP-2 by neurofibromin (NF1) suggests involvement in cancer biology, as increased expression of MetAP-2 has been linked to various cancer types. Inhibitors targeting MetAP-2, such as ovalicin and fumagillin, are being explored as potential therapeutic agents in cancer treatment, especially for tumors associated with NF1.
