QUICK LINKS

Menaquinone 7 belongs to a class of K2-vitamin homologs originally discovered as the anti-hemorrhagic factors. It has been identified as the most bioactive cofactor for the carboxylation reaction of Gla-proteins, such as osteocalcin and matrix-Gla protein, which play roles in building and maintaining overall bone health. Menaquinone 7 is found in a variety of fermented foods. In vivo, it may act to inhibit aortic and myocardial calcification. In a rat model of extraosseous clacifciation, Menaquinone 7 decreased aortic alkaline phosphatase tissue concentrations.
