Menadione sodium bisulfite, also identified as vitamin K3 or simply menadione, is a man-made variant of vitamin K. It′s used as a reagent in numerous assays to gauge the activity of enzymes and other proteins. Additionally, menadione sodium bisulfite is employed to induce oxidative stress in cells and tissues, proving useful in exploring the mechanisms of cellular damage and repair. This compound acts as a cofactor in the synthesis of several coagulation factors, including factors II, VII, IX, and X. It also plays a role in the synthesis of proteins associated with bone metabolism and vascular health. Menadione sodium bisulfite undergoes conversion to menaquinone-4 in the liver, which is subsequently transported to various tissues within the body.
