QUICK LINKS

Mellitic acid is a sodium salt of an inorganic acid. Used as a matrix effect agent for studying the kinetics of solute transport through polymer films. It has been used as a substrate film to study the interaction between metal ions and polymers through fluorescence spectrometry. Mellitic acid may act to have antimicrobial properties due to the hydroxyl group on mellitic acid can forming hydrogen bonds with the carboxylic acid groups in polymers.
