QUICK LINKS

Medetomidine hydrochloride is a potent, highly selective α2-adrenoceptor agonist (Ki values are 1.08 and 1750 nM for α2- and α1-adrenoceptors respectively). Medetomidine hydrochloride shows greater selectivity over α1-adrenoceptors than clonidine and UK 14,304 (1620-, 220- and 300-fold respectively). Medetomidine hydrochloride influences the adrenergic system by mimicking the action of adrenergic neurotransmitters. Medetomidine hydrochloride is an imidazole compound.

The potency is listed as 99.22%. Is this “as is” or was it calculated with the LOD factor of 0.67% and therefore “dry basis”?

Asked by: two2igm05
Assay (calculated as dry basis) means the total impurities don't include water. For example, assay 99.22%, means the 0.78% impurities don't include water. Loss on drying includes water and solvents residue.
