Manganese citrate is a form of the trace element manganese, which is essential for many biochemical processes. It is an important cofactor for enzymes involved in metabolic pathways, such as glycolysis and the Krebs cycle, and is also required for synthesis of cartilage and bone. Additionally, it is involved in energy metabolism, DNA and RNA synthesis, and the production of hormones and neurotransmitters. Manganese citrate is used in laboratory experiments as a source of manganese ions and as a reagent for various biochemical reactions. When exposed to an acidic environment, the manganese ions are released and able to interact with enzymes and other proteins, allowing them to catalyze biochemical reactions.
