QUICK LINKS

Magnesium iodide is an air-sensitive ionic solid that reacts with cyclic sulfates of vic-diols to produce corresponding olefins in excellent yields. Magnesium iodide can also be used to prepare compounds for organic synthesis, and may act to be very useful in the Baylis-Hillman reaction. Magnesium iodide finds application in diverse chemical reactions, including organic compound synthesis, polymer synthesis, and catalyst preparation.
