QUICK LINKS
Magnesium carbonate is a chemical used in the production of magnesium oxide by calcining. Magnesium Carbonate, also known as magnesite, is a versatile chemical reagent used in various applications. It plays a role in the synthesis of ceramics by aiding in the production of magnesium oxide. This magnesium salt, with the formula CMgO3, can occur in hydrated forms such as di-, tri-, and tetrahydrates, which are naturally found minerals. Apart from its significance in ceramics, magnesium carbonate serves as both an antacid and a fertilizer. In its solid or powdered form, magnesite appears as a crystalline substance, exhibiting colors ranging from white and yellowish to grayish-white or brown. With a density of 3-3.1 g cm-3, it serves as an important ore for magnesium extraction. Moreover, it finds application in the manufacturing of materials that possess exceptional heat resistance, allowing them to withstand very high temperatures. Additionally, magnesium carbonate can also be utilized to produce carbon dioxide when necessary.
