Lycorine·HCl, originally extracted from Lycoris radiata Herb, has been shown to inhibit viral protein synthesis and peptidyl transferase center. It has been demonstrated that Lycorine-HCL may act at the level of termination to regulate translation of RNA into protein. This compound has been reported to lower the mean arterial pressure in pentobar-bitone-anesthetized normotensive cats and rats. It has also been reported to antagonize the contractile effect of Methoxamine (sc-263468) and depress the hypersensitive effect of pheylephrineon rat anococcygeus muscle and rabbit aorta ring. Additionally, this agent was found to block α 1-adrenoceptors.
