LY 83583 is a quinolinedione that inhibits soluble guanylate cyclase (GCS). Inhibition of GCS has been reported to lower levels of cGMP and cAMP in rat studies. LY 83583 may act to inhibit leukotriene synthesis in guinea-pig lung and rat peritoneal cells in vitro, block the release of endothelium-derived relaxing factor, and enhance glucose transporter-1-mediated glucose transport. Kinetic studies have reported that LY 83583 acts as a competitive inhibitor with respect to NADPH (Ki=2.257 muM). LY 83583 is an inhibitor of glutathione reductase.
