QUICK LINKS

Lopinavir is a protease inhibitor that functions by binding to the active site of the HIV-1 protease enzyme. This binding prevents the cleavage of viral Gag-Pol polyproteins, ultimately inhibiting the maturation of infectious HIV particles. By interfering with the proteolytic processing of viral polyproteins, lopinavir disrupts the production of mature viral particles. Through its interaction with the active site of the protease enzyme, lopinavir effectively disrupts the viral replication cycle.
