    SEE ALSO...

LONP1 Antibody (3B2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects LONP1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-LONP1 antibody (3B2) is available as the non-conjugated format. LONP1, also known as lon peptidase 1, mitochondrial, PIM1, or PRSS15, is a crucial 959 amino acid protein located in the mitochondrial matrix and belongs to the peptidase S16 family. LONP1 plays a vital role in maintaining mitochondrial function and cellular health by acting as an ATP-powered protease that degrades oxidized proteins, particularly the hydrophobic form of aconitase, which is essential for the citric acid cycle. The degradation of such proteins is critical for preventing the accumulation of damaged proteins that can lead to mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular stress. LONP1 is not only involved in proteolysis but also preferentially binds to G-rich single-stranded DNA sequences within the mitochondrial genome, influencing DNA transcription and replication processes. LONP1 is expressed throughout various tissues, with particularly high levels in the heart, brain, duodenum, lung, liver, and skeletal muscle, highlighting its importance in energy-demanding organs. The gene encoding LONP1 is located on human chromosome 19p13.3 and mouse chromosome 17 D, and contains one lon domain, which is essential for its proteolytic activity.
