Loganin, an iridoid glucoside, has been reported to be an inhibitor of Cox-1 and also noted to suppress TNF-alpha formation. This compound also has displayed potent free-radical-scavenging activity and inhibitory effects on melanogenesis. Research has shown that Loganin also down-regulates mRNA expression of caspase-3, caspase-9, receptor activator for nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL) and up-regulates bcl-2 expression. Experimental studies suggest that Loganin can increase contents of osteocalcin and collagen type I and also improve activity of alkaline phosphatase.
