Lithium Ionophore VI is a white, crystalline solidsoluble in organic solvents like chloroform, methanol, and ether. Due to its distinctive crown-like structure and the available lone pairs on the oxygen atoms, it has a pronounced affinity for cations, particularly heavy metal ions. This compound is a composition of polyvinyl chloride, contains valinomycin, a metal ion, and an organic solvent. It finds application as a catalyst in organic reactions, allowing the extraction and detection of heavy metal ions. It has also been used in supramolecular chemistry and materials science. Lithium ionophore VI may act to have the capability for membrane potential-dependent transfer reactions with the use of hydrophobic organic solvents such as chloroform and acetone. It serves an essential role in calibrating analytical chemistry instruments by acting as a standard for assessing the pH values of various solutions. Lithium ionophore VI is a neutral carrier for Li+-ions in PVC ion-selective electrodes with good selectivities over potassium and sodium ions.
