Lisinopril is an inhibitor of ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme), which removes the C-terminal dipeptide from angiotensin I to form a powerful vasoconstrictor, angiotensin II. ACE is a key regulator of the renin-angiotensin system (RAAS). This compound has an IC50 of 1.2 nM. Lisinopril also decreases angiotensin II-induced aldosterone secretion by the adrenal cortex, which leads to an increase in sodium excretion and subsequently increases water outflow.
