Linomide is a compound that functions as an immunomodulator by inhibiting the proliferation of T cells and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It acts by specifically targeting and blocking the activity of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase, an enzyme involved in the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway. This inhibition ultimately leads to the suppression of T cell activation and the reduction of inflammatory responses.
