QUICK LINKS
Leuprolide Acetate functions as a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, which acts by binding to and activating GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. This results in the initial stimulation of the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to an increase in the production of sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. However, with continued administration, Leuprolide Acetate desensitizes the pituitary gland, ultimately leading to a decrease in the production of LH and FSH. This downregulation of sex hormone production is particularly useful in experimental applications where the modulation of sex hormone levels is required. At the molecular level, Leuprolide Acetate exerts its effects by disrupting the normal pulsatile release of GnRH, leading to a sustained suppression of LH and FSH secretion.
